Soooooo…. you don’t have to do anything you don’t feel comfortable with, but THIS FRIDAY, I will offer King Pigeon at the end of out BB Mobility flow.
A version of this class will be offered in-studio at CPY Pasadena Saturday 6/10, Level 3 (“C3”).
The request for this class on zoom keeps coming so that we have the opportunity to practice and make progress. This came up in a ANOTHER conversation with Jackie and Ayla after class….. soooo.. let’s do it!! This pose really teaches you to pull space from your upper thoracic spine - something needed for all backbends. Working asymmetrically on backbends is a great way to make progress.
Our class will follow the same format it has been - building into backbends after our warm up flow, options for arm balances and inversions, as you feel ready for it. SET UP BY A WALL, and be ready towards the middle / end of class to go back and forth between the mat and (possibly) inverting by a wall.

When I see someone who runs beautifully, I don’t think to myself “that it’s a wondrous gift of genetics how that runner became so good.” :) Running is not seen as a task that is impossible unless you are born gifted - it just requires the right training for someone to become good at it.
I believe that anyone can also decide to build their backbend - all they need is the right tools to move forward. It starts with the understanding of what to do, the consistency of doing the work - and personally speaking - I grow best when I work with others and make it more fun.
Understanding the FOUR main physical areas involved in a backbend is the best way to identify where and how to grow, so you can move from PLATEAUED to PROGRESS. That’s true if you are figuring out how to touch your head to your foot in Scorpion, or building your wheel pose.
Join me, and let’s work on our backbends - together. I’ve put together a three-day workshop to give you tools and understanding of how to develop your backbends. Try 3 different approaches and see how each can have a place in your training plan.

6/20 Tues SPECIAL CLASS: Standing Splits Technique
We are doing this class again! Last time around.
It takes some time to build strength, and allow your nervous system time to adjust to these deep flexibility moves that require balance, but once your body learns how it should feel, you will have a new tool in your arsenal.
We are repeating this class to teach our bodies how the activations feel, remember them all, and get used to the movements. I see big progress already (in you!!) since we’ve begun!! Let’s really nail it - - or leave it fully understanding the technique and the growth path in front of us so success is inevitable. :)
If you can get flat on the floor in front Splits (eventually! 😅), but can’t seem to get the last little bit required to achieve a flat line in Standing Splits, then this class will give you the tools and activations to make a straight line standing split. That last little bit requires some different activations, technique and feel.
The technique for the top leg will also help you with other poses: quick examples: 1) getting a sharp line in your back leg for poses like flying pigeon 2) getting a straight line in Candy Cane or Chapasana (bound half moon / foot grab) 3) builds mobility for a deep clean visvamitrasana.
The class is flowy, get out of your head faster vinyasa - but we have some time for this work in between all the things.

If you practice with us: Last week Rachael and Ayla did an amazing standing split-!!! Jackie I honestly had a hard time seeing the angle, but since she is more flexible than me, I know we’ll all see it soon.

Hello there, my favorite humans!!
It’s been an amazing few weeks returning back to LA. I am so grateful to be be here, and it has been deeply soul-satisfying to reconnect to my yoga friends and community.
My class times are very different now, so I am meeting and teaching a new group of people, but for those of you who have reunited with me – you don’t know how happy it makes me to see you!
I always say that our community is as important as our practice – it’s hard to care about a class if no one you care about is in a class with you. When we care, when we show up as a COMMUNITY, it helps us grow stronger and work harder - together.
The same is true for me as a teacher. It’s hard for me to invest myself in the classes if there is no one there I'm connected to. I feel like my teaching is serving more of a purpose these past few weeks, and helping people grow.
CPY let me teach a special Level 3 class a few days ago, and it was so fulfilling to see the enthusiasm and dedication everyone poured into the evening! I have been subbing many extra classes and it has been SO FUN to connect and teach to people who I’ve practiced alongside with in years gone by.

NEW OFFERINGS: For May, Thursday Flexibility will be deep stretch YogaWheel classes EVERY WEEK. Friday 7am - 8am will be Backbend Mobility Vinyasa Flow. The idea on Friday is to make Flexibility work more fun and flowy.
IMMEDIATE CLASS NEWS: This Thursday’s Flexibility class 4/27 is cancelled. Maybe Ayla will teach you??! I might be teaching at Kali 6am Thursday, subbing for Harry. Reach out if you'd like to come!
Monday 4/24 we have a FEEL GOOD hip flexibility class planned 7:30p. Just juicy, deep hip opening against the wall set to relaxing music. If you've ever thought of joining, this is the one! Get results, sleep better.
TUESDAY 4/25 CPY class is being subbed by another teacher. We are starting to work on stag legs, like the picture above! SATURDAY & SUNDAY 5:30 4/29-30, I will not be teaching in-studio. I'm heading to SF to help family.
